About Us

About Us

Tannen Contracting is a family-owned mechanical contracting company offering installation and service of commercial heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration systems throughout the five boroughs of New York and Long Island. We integrate proactive management and innovative technology to anticipate our clients' needs and provide them with enhanced service.

Our family's history of providing quality mechanical service in the area goes back 3 generations to Isaac Tannenbaum (1910-1972) who, at the time, was the youngest licensed electrician in the City of New York and a proud member of the Teamsters Union. Abe worked side-by-side with his father, going out on his own in the early 70's. In 1988, Abe and his wife Linda incorporated Tannen Contracting Co., Inc. and grew it from a one-truck, home-office operation into a professional outfit with multiple installation and service vehicles.

Abe and Linda's 5 children have all worked for the company at some point in their careers, each bringing new ideas and varied experience with them. This influx of talent further invigorated our company and helped us add operational capacity in many areas, especially in relation to our energy efficiency services. While we continue to maintain our approachable family-business vibe, our eyes on the future drive us forward ever-more rapidly.

Abe Tannenbaum
Abe

Abe has been running Tannen's operations since co-founding it in 1988. Over the years, Abe has built an unrivaled reputation for system design, troubleshooting and integrity. He oversees all of Tannen's installation, service and estimating work, ensuring jobs run seamlessly from conception to execution.

Prior to Tannen, Abe successfully founded and managed another HVAC company called Fruma Maintenance (est. 1974 in Brooklyn, NY), providing heating and air conditioning service to a loyal list of clients in the greater New York City area for over a decade before selling it to a prominent mechanical contracting company.

Prior to Fruma Maintenance, Abe worked as a senior mechanical technician for several local oil companies doing boiler installations and emergency service. He also worked as a field manager for Prince Carpentry on high-rise construction projects in Manhattan, where he oversaw teams of drywall and finished wood carpenters.

Abe holds a Bachelor's from CUNY Brooklyn College and studied mechanical engineering at City College of New York. He holds several mechanical and refrigerant certifications. Despite this, Abe really learned boilers and burners at an early age from his dad, Isaac.

Isaac Tannenbaum
Isaac

Isaac is ultimately responsible for Tannen's success and endurance. His intimate knowledge of building trends and technologies, combined with his deep network, makes him well-suited to take Tannen to the next level of its growth.

Isaac previously served as Trade Commissioner of Energy & Infrastructure for the Canadian Consulate, responsible for maintaining global subject matter expertise on energy, infrastructure, and sustainability trends, and identifying and advancing business leads via a vast network of private & public sector contacts. In 2014, Canada’s Consul General awarded Isaac the Outstanding Achievement Award.

Prior to his role with the Canadian government, Isaac managed tens of millions of dollars in US federal and state energy efficiency grants for portfolios of property throughout the US - first for an NGO and then for a private consultancy which he co-founded and managed.

Isaac graduated with a 4.0 from Columbia University where he earned an MS in Sustainability Management. He also graduated cum laude from Hofstra University School of Law, where he earned a JD and served as an editor of Hofstra Law Review. He holds multiple licenses and certifications in the green building, construction and insurance sectors.

Linda Tannenbaum
Linda

Linda has been running Tannen's back-end office since co-founding it in 1988. She is responsible for all administrative and finance matters of the company, making sure that Tannen continues to keep its lights on without interruption.

Prior to Tannen, Linda held roles of increasing responsibility at Sunshine Biscuits (then a subsidiary of American Brands and later merged with Keebler). Starting as a Teletype Operator while attending college in the evenings, Linda was promoted several times going on to work as a secretary in the sales department, and an assistant buyer in purchasing and as an executive assistant to the Head of Sales.

When Sunshine Biscuits created a Snacks division in the early 70's, Linda was asked to help build out teams, subsequently managing employees in several departments, including advertising, marketing, sales and procurement. Linda also held primary responsibility for the negotiation and execution of private labeling agreements for the Snacks division.

Linda holds a BA in Psychology (minor in accounting) from CUNY Brooklyn College. Over the years, she has taken several continuing education courses in accounting and financial management.
